Cisco 7200 Series

Cisco 7200 Series

Product Overview

The Cisco 7200 series routers are designed for today's most mission-critical internetworks because they combine Cisco Systems's proven software technology with reliability, availability, serviceability, and exceptional performance features. The 7200 series provides information system professionals with the flexibility they need to meet the constantly changing requirements at the core and distribution points of their internetworks.

The Cisco 7200 series routers include the Cisco 7206 and the Cisco 7204.

The Cisco 7200 routers provide routing and bridging for a wide variety of protocols and network media. Port and Service adapters are connected to PCI buses (peripheral component interconnect) on the Cisco 7200 routers, enabling connection to external networks. The 7200 series supports any combination of Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Token Ring, FDDI, ATM, serial, ISDN, and HSSI interfaces. For detailed information about port adapters, see the "Port Adapters and Service Adapters for the Cisco 7000 Family" chapter.

The Cisco 7200 series routers run the industry-leading Cisco IOS networking software, which assures robust, reliable internetworks by supporting both LAN and WAN protocols; provides optimized network services including security, quality of service, and traffic management; and enables centralized, integrated, and automated internetwork installation and management. The Cisco 7200 series offers IOS feature sets that can be customized as well as upgraded to meet changing requirements.

Software

Software Feature Sets

This section describes Cisco IOS software feature sets for the Cisco 7200 series routers. With feature sets, you can order software combinations that support your particular application. Optional licenses expand the feature sets by providing WAN packet protocol, interdomain routing, Network Address Translation (NAT), and NetFlow switching software. To order, select one feature set (there is no default) and order as many of the optional feature licenses as needed.

The Cisco 7200 series offers the following feature set:

The Cisco IOS feature set tables use the following conventions to identify features:

Table 7-33 lists the Cisco IOS Releases 11.2 and 11.1 feature sets.

Software Feature Packs

Software feature packs consist of CD-ROMs that contain Cisco IOS software feature set images and a Windows 95 application, which loads the images onto a router.

Software feature packs are available for most of the Cisco IOS Release 11.2 feature set images listed in Table 7-33. Table 7-32 lists the product numbers for feature sets and feature packs available in Cisco IOS Release 11.2.

For more information about Cisco IOS software, including the latest release, see Chapter 2, "Cisco IOS (Internetworking Operating System) Software."

Note You can order a Cisco IOS software feature pack for Cisco 7206 or Cisco 7204 models.

Software Product Numbers

Cisco IOS Feature Set Upgrades

Cisco IOS feature set upgrades are easy to order for Cisco 7200 series routers. The following is an example:

You have a Cisco 7206 router running the Cisco IOS Release 11.1 Network Layer 3 (basic) feature set. You want to upgrade to the Cisco IOS Release 11.2 Enterprise feature set. To complete the upgrade, use the following guidelines:
