Order Asynchronous Serial Service

To use a Cisco router with an asynchronous serial connection, you must order service from your telephone company. To do this, order plain old telephone service (sometimes referred to as POTS) with the desired service and billing options. Once your service is installed, plug a modem into the phone jack and connect the modem to your computer.
