This chapter describes how to install FastHub 108T/104T on a table or shelf and how to connect FastHub 108T/104T to the network. The first step is to check the contents of the FastHub 108T/104T box. Use the information in the section "Packing List" to ensure that you have received all FastHub 108T/104T components.
Follow these instructions to install the FastHub 108T/104T on a table or shelf:
- Step 1 Attach the four rubber feet included in the cushioning kit to the bottom of the unit.
- Step 2 Place the FastHub 108T/104T on a table or shelf close to a power outlet.
- Step 3 Attach the power cord to the FastHub 108T/104T. Plug it into a power outlet.
The Power LED turns on and the FastHub 108T/104T begins operation.
Follow these instructions to connect 100Base TX compatible devices to the FastHub 108T/104T:
- Step 1 Insert the RJ-45 connector into one of the 100Base-T ports as shown in Figure 3-1.
Figure 3-1 Inserting the RJ-45 Connector
- Step 2 Insert the other end of the cable into a 100Base TX compatible adapter installed in a server or workstation. You can also insert it into the Fast Ethernet port of a Cisco Catalyst 2000 desktop or workgroup switch or other 100Base TX compatible switch, hub, or router.
Note Verify that the RJ-45 cable is wired for Ethernet. A straight-through cable is used to connect to an adapter in a server or workstation.
A crossover cable is required when interconnecting two FastHub 108T/104Ts or another 100Base TX compatible hub, switch or router. See Figure B-2 for more information. Only one connection is supported between hubs, switches or routers.
- Step 3 Repeat steps 1 and 2 to connect the other ports to additional 100Base TX compatible devices.
- The Link/Receive LEDs light when both the FastHub 108T/104T and the connected devices are turned on. If the Link/Receive LEDs do not light, there may be a cable problem or a problem in the attached devices. See the "Troubleshooting" chapter for more details.
