Cisco 1005 Public Network Certification

This publication provides international regulatory and safety compliance information for the Cisco 1005 router. Use this publication with the Cisco 1005 User Guide publication that you received with your router and as an addendum to the Router Products Getting Started Guide.

Safety Information for the Cisco 1005 Router

All of the following statements are warnings or safety guidelines. A warning means danger. You are in a situation that could cause bodily injury. Before working on equipment, be aware of the hazards involved with electrical circuitry and standard safety practices to prevent accidents.

• Before opening the chassis, disconnect the telephone-network cables to avoid contact with telephone-network voltages.
  

• Do not work on the system or connect or disconnect cables during periods of lightning activity.
  

• This product relies on the building's installation for short-circuit (overcurrent) protection. Ensure that a fuse or circuit breaker no larger than 120 VAC, 15A U.S. (240 VAC, 10A international) is used on the phase conductors (all current-carrying conductors).
  

• This equipment has been designed for connections to TN and IT power systems.
  

• Unplug the power cord before you work on a system that does not have an On/off switch.
  

• When installing the unit, the ground connection must always be made first and disconnected last.
  

• Ultimate disposal of this product should be handled according to all national laws and regulations.
  

• Before working on equipment that is connected to power lines, remove jewelry (including rings, necklaces, and watches). Metal objects will heat up when connected to power and ground and can cause serious burns or weld the metal object to the terminals.
  

• The ports labeled "10BaseT", "Console", and "PCMCIA" are safety extra-low voltage (SELV) circuits. SELV circuits should only be connected to other SELV circuits.
  

EMC Compliance

The Cisco 1005 routers conform to the requirements of EMC Directive 89/336/EEC.

This product range falls within the scope of the Telecommunications Terminal Equipment (TTE) Regulations 1992 (Statutory Instrument No. 2423/1992).

However, there is currently no common technical regulation (CTR) in force that covers this particular category of equipment. Therefore the TTE regulations do not apply as specified in clauses 2(1), 4(3), and 6(1).

Accordingly, this product range conforms to the requirements of the national standards for connection to the network in accordance with section 22 of the 1984 Telecommunications act.

The installation procedures in the user guide must be followed to ensure compliance with these regulations.

Operating Conditions for the United Kingdom

In addition to the warnings and safety guidelines listed in "Safety Information for the Cisco 1005 Router," the following warnings apply to Cisco 1005 routers used in the United Kingdom:

• This apparatus must be connected to a main socket outlet with a protective earth contact.
  

• Connection of power supply: The Cisco 1005 router is intended for use when supplied with power from a supply providing 100--240 VAC, 50--60 Hz up to 25 W.

• EMI: FCC Class B, EN55022 Class B (CISPR22 B), VCCI Class 2
  

• Immunity: EN50082-1: 1992; Electromagnetic Compatibility-Generic Immunity Standard, Part I (residential commercial and light industry)
  

• PTT homologation: I-CTR2
  

CE Marking Directive

The CE 0168X signifies that this product meets the Telecommunications Directive 91/263/EEC.

Cisco Connection Online

Cisco Connection Online (CCO) is Cisco Systems' primary, real-time support channel. Maintenance customers and partners can self-register on CCO to obtain additional content and services.

Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, CCO provides a wealth of standard and value-added services to Cisco's customers and business partners. CCO services include product information, software updates, release notes, technical tips, the Bug Navigator, configuration notes, brochures, descriptions of service offerings, and download access to public and authorized files.

CCO serves a wide variety of users through two interfaces that are updated and enhanced simultaneously---a character-based version and a multimedia version that resides on the World Wide Web (WWW). The character-based CCO (called "CCO Classic") supports Zmodem, Kermit, Xmodem, FTP, Internet e-mail, and fax download options, and is excellent for quick access to information over lower bandwidths. The WWW version of CCO provides richly formatted documents with photographs, figures, graphics, and video, as well as hyperlinks to related information.
