Getting Around

If you don't rely on a GPS, the maps we provide can be very helpful for getting around Myrtle Beach. Traffic in Myrtle can get very busy at times, especially during the summer and holiday weekends. If it is busy, we advise you to plan on eating dinner either early or late. This will help you avoid waiting at restaurants which are usually crowded during popular weekends.

When leaving the condo you can take Burcale toward 501 the same way you can in. If heading toward the beach, turn right off Burcale onto Clay Pond Rd (at Waterway Crossing Apartments) which takes you to the George Bishop Parkway. From here you can take a left or right. A left takes you to 501 while a right turn takes you over the waterway to the route 17 bypass. See the inserted Google map for an overview.

NOTE : As a side note, the Myrtle Beach Jetport is shown on the map above. If you take a right on the George Bishop Parkway it runs straight to the airport (about 5 minutes away).

Another way you can exit the complex is to take a left onto Buracle (when leaving Arrowhead) and then an immediate right onto McCormick Rd. McCormick hits Forrestbrook Rd. at a stop sign. Make a left onto Forrestbrook and continue until you hit a traffic light at the intersection of route 544. Making a left onto 544 (going east) will put you in the south end of Myrtle around the Surfside Beach area. Route 544 crosses the 17 bypass and dead-ends on Kings Highway (Route 17 business).

Traveling south from the condo should be done using the 17 bypass. Traveling north, you have the option of using route 31 in addition to 17. If your destination is north of 48th street then route 31 should be used as the first exit off 31 takes you near 48th start. 17 business(Kings Highway) has quite a few lights and Ocean Blvd is always slow. The downtown area is generally congested. If you want to sight see downtown, it is usually better to park before getting to Ocean Blvd and walking.

The 17 bypass, 17 business, and Ocean Blvd run parallel to the ocean. The roads that run between these are numbered. It is important to understand that the numbered roads are labeled either north or south. If you take 501 to 17 business you'll hit 17 business around 9th Ave north. If you make a right onto 17 and drive south you'll pass 8th north, 7th north etc. until you hit 1st Ave north. The next road is 1st Ave south and the next is 2nd Ave south. They increase from there.

It is also important to know that only a few of the numbered roads run from the beach all the way to the 17 bypass. If you look on the golf map, you'll see that 21st, 38th and 48th are a few of the roads that run to the beach from the 17 bypass.

NOTE : 17 business and Kings Highway are the same road. Addresses for places on 17 business usually look like this address for Studebakers : 2000 N. Kings Highway. This is the same address as the corner of 20th Ave North and 17 business.
