UniverCD Old Cisco Documentation
Questions: univercd@remaker.com
Cisco Systems used to ship their documentation in CD form.
First generation was aproprietary format.
Second generation was HTML, shipped with a serach engine and a local web browser that ran on the local PC. This was, the HTML on the web site and the CD matched.
Originally, the CD shipped including the PDF form of the printed docuumenation. The November 1996 CD is an example of that.
Later versions ran out of space on the disk and instead pointed to the saved PDF files on www.cisco.com. Those links are all broken today. The February 1998 CD is an example of that.
Search does not work on these pages; it only worked on the local browser versions which ran a search engine tied to an index on the CD.
